To be clear. The Play 3 does NOT connect to the iPad or iPhone.

The Sonos speakers are associated to a Wi-Fi network and connected to that either by Wi-Fi or by a wired connection to one of the Sonos units. The iPhone/iPad then connect to that Wi-Fi network so the commands are sent via your Wi-Fi network to and from the Sonos units.

So the key is to make sure the iPad/iPhone is connected to the same wireless network - Make sure the phone isn't connected to the 5GHz network (Will likely have "-5" at the end of the name as that network may not pass commands through to the 2.4 GHz network that is used by Sonos

Thanks for the reply. My husband said that exactly what you said has been done. Nothing has changed in our home over the past month, so we are puzzled why it has suddenly stopped working? It was fine last week?

Your Sonos may have duplicate IP addresses. To resolve do the following:-

Switch off your Wi-Fi Router
Switch off ALL your Sonos kit
Switch off ALL devices connected to your Network
- Computers, Laptops, Tablets
- Smartphones, thick phones
- NAS

Switch on Router. Wait until it has re-connected to the internet
Switch on Sonos Bridge and/or Boost, Connect - Wait a minute or two for them to connect
Switch on your Sonos Plays and Playbar
Switch on all your other network devices

hopefully that will flush this issue out.

I connected it to the ethernet cable, and it works. Then we tried to go wireless, and it's not working.

Hi Musicmama,

I'd like to see a diagnostic report from your PLAY:3 when it is connected via ethernet. Please submit a report then reply here with the confirmation number and I'll check it out.
